TANYA HAMBOURG
Tanya earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Viola
Perfiormance from Boston University. She toured Europe as assistant
principal violist with America ’s Youth in Concert Orchestra
and participated in the Boston University Tanglewood Young Artist’s
Institute (1981 & 1982) as well as the National Repertory
Orchestra (l990). Her principal teachers were Klement Hambourg,
Michael Zaretsky, Raphael Hillyer, Steven Ansell, Patricia McCarty,
and George Neikrug. Chamber music coaches include Eugene Lehner
and Leslie Parnas. She also participated in master classes with
Yuri Bashmet and the Muir and Vermeer String Quartets.
Tanya was a member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic (1990-1991),
Principal viola with the Symphony by the Sea (2007-2009) and
has performed with numerous New England area ensembles including
the Springfield Symphony and the Boston Academy of Music. In
addition, as an active Boston area freelancer, she has performed
with such notable artists as Peter Cetera, Rod Stewart, Smokey
Robinson and Johnny Mathis.
Tanya is currently a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has a private music studio
where she teaches the Suzuki and Traditional methods to violin and viola students.
In addition she is an active free-lance violist in the area, performing with such orchestras as the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
